700 practice questions for CompTIA A+ Core 2 (220-1202), written to the March 2025 objectives and covering all four domains in their published weightings, including the artificial intelligence objective that is new to this version. Every question carries an explanation that teaches the topic rather than restating the answer.

CompTIA A+ Core 2 (220-1202) is the second of the two exams that make up CompTIA A+ V15, the entry-level certification for technical support and IT operations roles. Where Core 1 covers the physical side of the job, Core 2 covers what runs on it and what surrounds it: operating systems, security, software troubleshooting, and the operational procedures a technician works inside. It was published on 25 March 2025 and replaced 220-1102, which retired in English on 25 September 2025. This practice exam holds 700 questions written to those objectives, split across the four domains in the weightings CompTIA publishes. A+ is a two-exam certification: passing Core 2 alone does not certify you, and Core 1 (220-1201) covers hardware, networking, virtualization and hardware troubleshooting separately.

What is covered:

  1. Operating systems - 196 questions. Operating system types and their purposes, installations and upgrades, and the differences between Windows editions. Windows features and tools including Task Manager, Event Viewer, Device Manager, Disk Management and the Registry. The Microsoft command-line tools, Windows settings and client networking configuration. macOS features and tools, the Linux client and desktop, installing applications to a requirement, and configuring cloud-based productivity tools.
  2. Security - 196 questions. Physical, logical and account security measures, and Windows security settings including NTFS and share permissions, User Account Control and the built-in firewall. Wireless security protocols and authentication methods. Malware types and the tools and order of steps for detection, removal and prevention. Social engineering attacks, threats and vulnerabilities. Small office malware removal, workstation hardening, mobile device security, data destruction and disposal, small network security settings and browser configuration.
  3. Software troubleshooting - 161 questions. Windows faults from blue screens and boot failures to profile problems, service failures, printing and time drift. Mobile operating system and application issues including battery, thermal, connectivity and installation faults. Mobile security symptoms, and personal computer security symptoms - redirects, pop-ups, certificate warnings, disabled protection and unexplained network activity.
  4. Operational procedures - 147 questions. Documentation and support systems information management, change management, workstation backup and recovery, safety procedures, environmental controls and disposal, prohibited content and incident response, licensing and privacy, communication and professionalism, scripting, remote access technologies, and artificial intelligence.

Written as a judgment exam, not a memorization exam:

Almost every Core 2 objective is phrased "Given a scenario", and the exam is written accordingly. A question puts a situation in front of you and asks what it implicates, which step comes next, or which of two defensible actions is right for this moment. The preparation that fails here is the one that works on a fact-recall paper. Knowing that a wrist strap exists is worth nothing on a question where one is clipped to the wrong thing; knowing the malware removal steps as a list is worth nothing on a question that asks why quarantine comes before cleaning. These questions are written the same way. A security question gives you a situation and asks what it costs; a procedures question gives you two reasonable answers and asks which one the moment calls for.

Explanations that teach the topic:

Every one of the 700 questions carries an explanation, and none of them restates the winning option. That distinction matters more than it sounds. An explanation that says "the answer is multifactor authentication because multifactor authentication is correct here" has taught you nothing you can carry to a question you have not seen. Each explanation here starts from the mechanism underneath the situation - why a stolen password stops being enough, why a chain of nightly copies breaks at a gap, why a sag damages equipment a spike does not - and lets the right action follow from it. Where a question turns on a distinction, the explanation names the boundary and says where the other choice would have been correct. Each one also cites the CompTIA objective it was written from, by number and by title, and nothing else is cited.

Drag-and-drop and command-line questions:

CompTIA states on its own exam page that the Core 2 paper includes drag-and-drop items alongside multiple choice and performance-based questions. Most practice material does not include a single one. This bank has drag-and-drop boards, more than a fifth of the questions, spread across all four domains rather than clustered where they were easy to write. There are also multiple-response questions, which is the format candidates most often report being caught by. And Core 2, unlike Core 1, has a command line: objective 1.5 is Microsoft command-line tools, 1.9 is the Linux client and desktop, and 4.8 is scripting. Questions here put a real prompt, a real script or a real listing in front of you and ask what it does, what it would do wrong, or what belongs on the next line.

If you studied for 220-1102, most of the ground carried over and the additions are worth knowing precisely, because a book written for the retired version cannot warn you about them. The largest is artificial intelligence, which is a whole new objective with no predecessor: appropriate use and plagiarism, the limitations that matter in support work, and the difference between sending material to a public service and running one inside your own boundary. Documentation was reworded as well, from ticketing into documentation and support systems information management, and now names asset management, the configuration management database and internal support articles explicitly. This bank was written against the 220-1202 objectives document rather than adapted from older material, so what it tests is what the current exam tests.

Sitting Core 1 as well:

A+ is one certification and two papers, and neither one certifies you on its own. Core 1 (220-1201) is the hardware and networking half: mobile device hardware, networking, PC hardware and printers, virtualization and cloud concepts, and hardware and network troubleshooting. Core 2 is this one. Candidates commonly sit them a few weeks apart, and the two overlap in exactly the places you would expect - mobile device management appears in both, and the troubleshooting method is the same discipline applied to different symptoms. How it is marked:

The pass mark is 70 percent of the questions you are asked, counted as a plain percentage. Each sitting draws 90 questions from the pool of 700 and runs for 90 minutes, so a full attempt is a realistic sitting rather than an open-ended review, and the pool is deep enough that repeated attempts keep presenting new material. Questions are drawn in the published domain weightings, so a sitting reflects the shape of the real paper rather than the shape of whatever was easiest to write.
